A Targeted Growth Hormone Fragment in Metabolic Research

AOD-9604 is a synthetic peptide fragment derived from the C-terminal region of human growth hormone (hGH). It has been investigated for its apparent ability to influence lipid metabolism pathways without reproducing the broad anabolic and mitogenic effects associated with full-length growth hormone. Human growth hormone plays a central role in regulating growth, metabolism, and body composition. However, its pleiotropic activity complicates research focused specifically on adipose tissue and fat metabolism. AOD-9604 was developed to isolate and study the lipolytic signalling properties of growth hormone while avoiding systemic growth-related effects. 

AOD-9604 corresponds to amino acids 177–191 of the human growth hormone sequence. This region was identified through structure–function studies as being closely associated with fat metabolism signalling. By isolating this fragment, researchers aimed to create a compound capable of selectively engaging pathways related to lipid oxidation and fat storage regulation without stimulating insulin-like growth factor-1 production or somatic growth. 

Preclinical research suggests that AOD-9604 may influence adipocyte signalling involved in lipolysis and lipogenesis. Unlike full growth hormone, which activates multiple endocrine pathways, AOD-9604 appears to act downstream of growth hormone receptors, selectively modulating enzymes associated with fat metabolism. Studies indicate it does not significantly alter insulin or glucose signalling, making it useful for targeted metabolic research. 

AOD-9604 has been explored in animal models and early-phase human research settings to better understand metabolic signalling. While not approved for medical use, it continues to serve as a reference compound in laboratory studies examining adipose tissue biology, obesity mechanisms, and growth hormone fragment activity.

Importantly, these findings remain experimental and have not been validated in human clinical trials. 

AOD-9604 represents a targeted approach to studying growth hormone-related fat metabolism. By isolating a specific functional fragment of hGH, researchers have been able to investigate lipid regulation pathways with greater precision. Its ongoing use contributes to understanding metabolic and adipose biology.
